Riding Lesson Program
At
Chrislar Farm our riding lesson program is designed to create a sensible,
sensitive, thinking rider by focusing on the sound basics of horsemanship
and communication between horse and rider.
Riding lessons are available for beginner
through advanced level students, adults and children. Children should be at
least eight years old to enroll.
An account will be established for each member upon
completion of the Student Application Form (please read carefully), and initial payment/deposit.
New students will schedule and pay in advance for a block of
four (4) riding lessons.
Rider with no prior riding experience will ride in one-half hour private riding
lessons, until they become qualified to ride in a group.
New members with prior riding experience will ride in one hour group riding lessons.
See current riding lesson rates.
New Experienced Riders
If you are a rider with
experience in riding and tacking up, your first lesson will be a one-half hour
private evaluation lesson with refresher tack-up instruction and an
introduction to Chrislar’s procedures.
The riding instructor will evaluate your riding level to determine
the best group for you to join. For the rider who has accomplished the
basics and can communicate
effectively with a horse, we offer many riding activities, competitive, pleasure and recreational riding.
After your evaluation lesson, if it is determined that you are not ready to go into a group right
away, you may remain in half-hour private lessons and charged accordingly.
New Beginner Riders
If you are a beginner rider, you will participate in one-half hour private
lessons until you become qualified to advance to one-hour group lessons.
Half-hour, private lessons are reserved during high demand times for beginner riders only.
This gives the beginner rider the opportunity to get involved and grow into the Program.
Your introductory lesson is primarily devoted to becoming familiar with the horse,
procedures, facility and the tacking-up process. Learning to tack-up takes repetition.
Your riding instructor will continue to assist you as part of the lesson,
with the remaining time available for riding.
Eventually, when your are capable
of tacking-up alone, you should arrive early to tack-up so that your riding lesson can
begin on time, and most of the lesson time will be available for riding. Parents of small children are
encouraged to learn and help their child tack-up.
The more often you ride in
one-half hour lessons, the faster you will progress into one-hour group lessons.
Riding as often as possible enables the serious and eager student to achieve better riding
skills with quicker advancement.
Once riding safely in group lessons, you will be eligible to
take advantage of other riding opportunities available at Chrislar.
